Oxford trip to Mansfield College
On the 2nd of February a group of 30 students from the Year 10 Gifted and Talented programme took a trip to Oxford University’s Mansfield College. The day was a very interesting insight into what it may be like to attend the University. When we first arrived we were given a talk about what Oxford offered in terms of courses and extracurricular activities. Three students currently studying at Oxford talked to us about what their typical day was like and we were given the chance to ask any questions of our own. We were given a short tour of the university before having lunch (which was really good). After lunch we were given a short class on ancient English runes and carvings by a lecturer at Oxford. For the last part of the day we completed a short scavenger hunt, traipsing around the campus and areas nearby trying to find all sorts of things such as celebrity look a likes, hidden security cameras and moustaches! Many students returned with an invigorated interest in University study.
