Year 12 Paris trip
After having counted down the days for weeks, the 4th July was finally here! Yes, American Independence Day, but also when we were due to leave for three days in Paris.
Arriving at the Gare du Nord at 10am, we had a fantastic first day sight-seeing in Paris, after navigating the route to our hotel. We admired masterpieces in the Centre Pompidou, people-watched and took in the sights Paris had to offer, which were particularly spectacular during an evening cruise on the Seine.
Waking up to croissants on the second day, we prepared for another eventful day in the capital. Surely the best view was from the Tour Montparnasse. We were sped to the top (210m) in less than 40 seconds to a breath-taking, 360˚ view of Paris. We had the opportunity to shop in both small, French markets and in enormous department stores along the Champs-Élysées, practising our French and picking up new phrases.
By the third day we were accustomed to Paris’ bustling lifestyle and to jumping on and off the metro, where we were often entertained by street musicians. We climbed the stairs of the Sacré-Cœur for one last view of the city. We then ate lunch in the Jehan Rictus square, admiring the ‘I love you’ wall, where the phrase is written in over 300 languages!
Making our way back to the Gare du Nord to catch the Eurostar back to St. Pancras, we bought some last souvenirs and said ‘Au revoir’ to the city.
Pin-pointing just one highlight of our time in Paris would be impossible, but I’m sure everyone would agree in saying it was largely entertaining and educational.
A big ‘merci’ to Ms Plaquet and Mr Shanks for organising such a wonderful trip.
