English Speaking Union host Lords Chamber event at HCACP
On Thursday 22nd of October, the English Speaking Union visited HCACP to host the first House of Lords 'Talking Day' of 2015. On December the 4th, for only the ninth time ever, members of the public will be invited to take a seat in the House of Lords Chamber and debate on the topic of 'Diversity in Parliament'.
15 HCACP students from years 11-13 were joined by members of the British Humanist Association and the London Girl Guides in a workshop aimed at identifying London's most promising young (and not so young) speakers.
The event involved a variety of speaking activities, a round-table discussion and concluded with a mock House of Lords style debate from which the best speakers were identified.
Robyn Roach (11MP) has been chosen to be one of only a handful of key speakers on the day, giving a prepared speech from the floor in the chamber. It's no understatement to say that this is a once in a lifetime opportunity; Robyn will join an exclusive group of only a few hundred people to ever speak in the House of Lords without a peerage.
All 15 students present on the day will join hundreds of others from around the UK in December to take a seat on the red benches and debate the representativeness of the House of Lords.
Stay tuned on the HCACP website and our twitter @HCACP_MA for more updates.
Congratulations to all the speakers.
