Sky Skills Studio
A group of twenty Year 9 Media students went to the Sky Skills Studio to see real live media in the making. We learned a lot of interesting facts about the news and how it’s produced and worked in groups to make a news report about the effects of Social Media on society. Each created a section of the report and, once complete, the four parts were edited together to make a full VT package. In my group we learnt to use a TV camera and stage an interview. We also got our hands on the editing suite and edited the shots removing the footage that we didn’t want: Our editor was Nathan Lear, he used a program that Sky have created which is a little like i-movie to trim and composite the clips. We learnt a range of different life skills such as communication, teamwork, problem solving and creativity. At the end we were given USB wristbands that contained the finished video. Thanks to our teachers for organising this trip, it was an amazing experience and a fun afternoon!
