Holocaust Memorial Day
Holocaust Memorial Day was the one of the most emotionally harrowing experiences of my life. Listening to Hanna Lewis’s story of survival during the Nazi holocaust was the saddest thing I have ever heard. Hanna told us of her life in WWII Germany and subsequent internment in a Nazi work camp. We heard the story of a young girl whose childhood was taken in the blink of an eye and replaced with the horror of forced labour. I was barely able to comprehend the strength and courage it took Hanna Lewis to stand there and recount that terrible experience for us...but I’m glad she did. How else could such valuable lessons from the past be passed on to future generations? The message that I was left with was that innocence is not lost, it is stolen.
